Safari Brief

This 5 Days safari holiday takes you to Murchison Falls National Park where you get to view the picturesque park from an Eagle's vantage point in a hot air balloon. You view herds of buffalo, elephant and other game as well as River Nile as it slices through one of the savannah game parks it comes across on its journey to the Mediterranean.

You get to explore the park on land in a game drive. Lastly, you visit Budongo Forest – a part of the Murchison Falls conservation area for a chimpanzee trek in the tropical rainforest.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Welcome! You arrive in Uganda at Entebbe International Airport, located on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Victoria, the largest fresh water lake in Africa, where a representative/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will transfer you to Cassia Lodge in Kampala for your overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Dinner

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls via Zziwa Rhinos

This morning, a driver/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or wherever you will be staying to commence your drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The rhino sanctuary is not part of Murchison Falls National Park but can easily be visited on the way to or from Murchison.

The Rhino Sanctuary was set up to breed rhinos that were wiped out in the Ugandan wild with the hope that one day they will be re-introduced back in the wild. Here, you track Rhinos on foot with guides, which is a most exhilarating experience. The trek is an hour and a half and you come into close proximity with the Rhinos.

After your trek, you enjoy a picnic lunch and exit the sanctuary to complete your drive to Murchison Falls National Park. On arrival, you will check-in at Murchison River Lodge and have the rest of the day to yourselves or head out for an evening game drive. Overnight at Murchison River Lodge.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Balloon flight in Murchison Falls & boat safari to bottom of falls

You are up at 5.00 am and are delivered at the balloon launch spot. At the launch spot, enjoy taking photos as you watch the balloon inflation process. You are then briefed on safety regulations by the balloon pilot and then start flying at around 6.00am right before the African sunrise.

Admire herds of buffalo, elephants, Rothschild’s giraffe and other game as seen from above. On the flight, you are blessed with many great photo opportunities of scenery, landscape and wildlife below.  The Balloon ride lasts for about an hour after which the balloon lands and guests receive their participation certificates. On the way back a mini safari tour is provided depending on the landing position. The trip ends at about 8:00 am.

Guests continue to the bush breakfast location prepared by the Paraa Safari lodge chef in the bush, the location is secured by UWA armed rangers. At about 9.30am, the balloon flight ends and you can choose to go on a game drive in your safari vehicle to now spot game on the ground or you are transported back to the pick-up location. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, at 2.00pm, you will head out for the boat launch to the bottom of the powerful Murchison Falls. This three-hour boat cruise climaxes at the edge of the rift valley escarpment at which point you will get off the boat and trek to the top of the falls (wear sports shoes while on the boat for ease of trekking to the top). Having worked up a sweat, once at the top, get bathed in the misty spray that the Nile create as it forces itself into the 7-metre cleft to create the famous Murchison Falls. Your guide will be waiting up top to transfer you back to the lodge (Murchison River Lodge) for dinner and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo

Wake and enjoy your breakfast. After your breakfast, drive to Budongo Forest – part of the Murchison Falls National Park conservation area for your guided chimpanzee tracking experience. You go in search of the habituated chimpanzee family in this forest. Your guide will explain to you more about the animals and plant species that you encounter on your way. Also, look out for other primates like the Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, different types of birds etc. Chimp tracking can be experienced daily with two viewing times per day – so you will take the morning slot. The hike takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the movement of the chimpanzees. Once you find the chimps, you will stay in their presence for one hour as you watch them feed, play and groom one another. Once the hour is up, you will come back to the starting point where your driver/guide will be waiting to take you back to the lodge for relaxation and later lunch. In the afternoon, you have the rest of the day to yourself. Overnight at Murchison River Lodge.
