Safari Brief

This safari takes you to Semliki and Kibale Forest National parks. The genesis of Kibale Forest National Park dates back to the early 1940s when it was gazetted as a Government Forest Reserve. The forest park sits on a total area of 795sqkms with an elevation ranging from 1,100m – 1,590m above sea level.

This varying altitude supports a diversity of wildlife because it’s characterized by savannah on the rift valley floor, woodland and wet-tropical forests. This national park has the highest primate diversity and concentration in Africa with somewhere close to 13 primate species recorded todate. Chimpanzees are the highlight of the primate world in Kibale!

The closest relatives to human beings, chimpanzees in Kibale are estimated to be about 1450 individuals. Kibale Forest is also a birding hotspot! With 372 recorded bird-species, six of which are Albertine Rift Endemics, bird enthusiasts find the park an Eden of birds.

After the formalities at the park headquarters, you will head out on a guided nature walk in the tropical rain forest in search of the wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many others. The guides and rangers will provide detailed explanations, not only on primates, but also on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is both informative and enjoyable. The birdlife is prolific which is evident by the fact that there are more than 400 recorded species which includes Great blue Turaco, Grey parrot, Green-breasted & African pitas, Crested Guinea-fowl, Black bee-eaters, and African crowned eagles. Break for lunch and then embark on an afternoon Bigodi Swamp Walk. The swamp is a community-based tourism project which offers a platform for you to see more primates, swamp and forest birds.
